Big Sky Hypnosis FAQs

The modality of hypnosis has been around for some 3,000-5,000 years dating back to the Greeks and Egyptians who used a variation of hypnosis in their Sleep Temples; and it has been evolving ever since. Did you know thatThomas Edison, Nikola Tesla, and Albert Einstein were known to do self-hypnosis sessions? Einstein’s great theory of relativity entered his mind during one of these sessions, and he used the hypnotic trance state to develop many of his other theories and formulas.

What is hypnosis? Hypnosis has been around for thousands of years and has evolved. Freud even used it. It involves focused attention, motivation, imagination, and suggestions.

What is clinical hypnosis? Clinical hypnosis, is therapeutic in nature that guides a person into a focused, trance-like state to facilitate healing, behavior change, and positive outcomes. Additional training is required which will allow me to work within areas like pain management.

What is integrative hypnosis? We take hypnosis and add to it other modalities such as coaching, breathwork, NLP which create a unique, cohesive experience in desired outcomes and transformation.

What is it like to be in hypnosis? Hypnosis is a natural state of pleasant relaxation, like the moment between being awake and falling asleep, with focused attention, and reduced awareness of your surroundings.

What is the difference between a Hypnotherapist and a Hypnotist? In the United States, each individual state’s laws are different as far as the language that can be used to denote one’s certification and title. Here in Nevada, because I am not a licensed therapist, I cannot use the term Hypnotherapist as this language suggests the title of being a licensed mental health professional.

Can I be controlled? No, you are not giving up your free will, and you will not be made to do anything against your will or nature.

Will I lose consciousness or sleep? No, you will not lose consciousness or fall asleep. As a clinical hypnotist, I monitor how deeply a client is at any stage in the process. We want a depth of trance deep enough to do the work to bring about the intended change.

Can I "get stuck" in hypnosis? No, it's physically impossible to get stuck or be unable to come out of the hypnotic state. You can come out of it by simply wiggling your fingers or toes.

Can hypnosis go wrong? Hypnosis is considered safe if the hypnotist is well trained and meets the needs of the client.

What is the difference between what you do and stage hypnosis? Stage hypnosis is performed with an audience in mind and is for shock value and entertainment. What I do is client-centered, helping the client with personal development and specific goals.

What if I don’t know what I want to change? I just know I don’t like where I’m at. I see this quite a bit. Your hypnosis journey will begin by you filling out a digital intake form (you will be prompted with the link when booking) and through the process of our working together it will become more clear which areas of personal development are in need of attention and what your goals are.

How soon will I notice a change? This can vary depending on the individual. Many clients notice a difference immediately, and others, using the example of fear of public speaking, notice a difference the next time they are in that space of speaking in public.

SAFETY AND EFFECTIVENESS

Is it safe? Yes, hypnosis is considered safe when administered by a well-trained professional.

Can everyone be hypnotized? Most people can be easily hypnotized, if they want to be.

Will I remember what happens? You will most likely remember your experience; however each of us will have a unique experience while in hypnosis and with deeper states of trance (being hypnotized), these can cause some amnesia around the contents of the session. I will ask you at the start of the session if you would like me to record the session.

What are the benefits? Hypnosis can help with issues like stress, loss, and breaking negative patterns and habits, but it's not a cure-all and results vary.

How many sessions are needed? The number of sessions depends on the issue and you. Some habits might be resolved quickly, while others, like anxiety, may require more sessions. Typically, I recommend 3-6 sessions and these are available as bundles to be more cost-effective.

OTHER COMMON CONCERNS

Can hypnosis be used with children? Yes, it can be effective with children.

Will I reveal secrets? No, you will not reveal personal or secret information against your will.

Since all of your sessions are over Zoom, what happens if we have an internet glitch during the session? You will naturally come out of hypnosis on your own since you will not hear my voice any longer. I will re-establish our connection and we will pick up where we left off.

Can I hypnotize myself?  Yes. Within the first session, I will teach you how to properly do self-hypnosis.

How many problems can I deal with at once using hypnosis?  It is best to work on one issue at a time.
